Sons de Mar was created as an interface aimed at the promotion of research. Defining and controlling the impact of acoustic pollution, without impeding on the advances of human activities, constitutes a scientific challenge and carries an important responsibility to society. This is the challenge that the Laboratory of Applied Bioacoustics of the Technical University of Catalonia has been facing with in its research for the last 15 years. The LAB holds a multi-disciplinary approach where the mathematical and physical sciences converge with biology and biotechnological engineering, with the objective of integrating models that describe the natural physiological processes of sound production and reception, as well as the development of passive technologies that allow the exploration of the sea without introducing noise pollution.
